9 REASONS I LOVE BALI!

An enchantingly beautiful island dipped in turquoise clear waters; a magical landscape of soft white sands, mountain backdrops and rich green jungles; Bali is more than a holiday destination, it is an inspiration. From fine dining and a vibrant culture, to an achingly beautiful simplicity that nourishes you to the very core, this Indonesian island is rich with natural beauty, serenity and tropical wonder.

Melanie Smith, Group Director of Club Operations at Anantara Vacation Club, shares her passion for Bali with Club Owners who can experience tropical island delights at Club Resort Anantara Vacation Club Bali Seminyak; a luxurious boutique pool villa hideaway by the beach or at Club Escape Anantara Uluwatu Bali Resort & Spa, a gorgeous cliffside sanctuary.

9 REASONS I LOVE BALI!

  1. Bali constantly changes whilst staying the same

Each time I arrive in Bali I marvel at how much it has changed from being the simple, undiscovered beach paradise it was in the late ’70s and early ’80s, where a busy day was lounging by the pool or buying sweet rice cakes on the beach. Now, Bali has buzzing shopping and dining areas and so many activities. Some things never change though…

When I returned to Sanur, on the southeastern side of the island, recently we were greeted like long lost friends by the same stall holder my parents met in 1978. Regardless of blossoming tourism, there’s still room enough for a small street stall selling balls of rice and grilled chicken.

Offerings brighten up the streets, reminding you of the importance of religion and cultural beliefs here; families still live in communal compounds, valuing their close ties. For all the incredible changes tourism has brought to Bali, the people still hold onto the same culture and way of life they have done for generations.

  1. In Bali I live like a princess

For my early Bali trips, I would budget USD $50 a day for meals, entertainment and shopping; returning home with suitcases full of interesting souvenirs. Even though my budget has increased and it is great to splash out on fine dining and spa treats, you can still experience a wonderful holiday on an affordable budget and leave Bali feeling like a million dollars!

  1. Bali has a beautiful climate

I’ve always been a real beach girl and just love being in, on, or near the water. Balmy beach days are guaranteed with an average year-round temperature of 32 degrees; warm enough for beach-lounging but mild enough to be active too. Even when it’s Monsoon season, the refreshing tropical rains are soon blown away and it’s still warm enough to get out and about and enjoy all that Bali has to offer.

  1. Bali is a kids’ playground

Whether you are holidaying with kids or are young at heart, Bali is a fun destination. Animal-lovers can visit Bali Zoo, Bali Bird Park and Reptile Park, as well as Ubud Monkey Forest. Since you are by the beach you can enjoy water sports, such as surfing, snorkelling and diving, as well as parasailing and jet skiing. You can visit Waterbom Bali with its thrilling water slides or surf the waves.

For more adrenaline-fuelled action, try bungee jumping, paint balling and white water rafting, plus cycle tours, go karting and trekking through the jungle. To unwind visit a temple and meditate, indulge in a spa treatment or practice yoga.

When you have spent the day in the sun you can return to Club Resort Anantara Vacation Club Bali Seminyak or Club Escapes Anantara Seminyak Bali Resort & Spa and Anantara Uluwatu Bali Resort & Spa and watch the sunset, sip on a cocktail and contemplate life.

  1. Bali is an ideal shared-holiday destination

A short flight from Australasia and the Pacific makes Bali an ideal destination to meet friends and family travelling from different locations, looking for a classic tropical island vacation. What’s more, Bali has so much to offer that all ages and types love it too, adding to its perfect holiday get-together appeal.

  1. Bali is a shopper’s paradise

Bali offers a great bartering experience and is expected, unless a sign tells you that goods have a fixed price. Start lower than you are prepared to pay and meet somewhere in the middle. You can enjoy exploring shops and stalls for wonderful local crafts and jewellery, homeware and clothes designed by young emerging Asian fashion designers. In Bali, it’s not just what you can buy for your rupiah but the excitement and fun in discovering the island’s shopping treasures.

  1. Bali is rich with world flavours

From local street stall cuisine to a gourmet meal and fine dining experience, Bali is a culinary melting pot of world cuisines. In Bali chefs cook the most amazing Balinese dishes such as nasi campur (mixed rice), but also understand the flavours and styles found around the globe. So, don’t be surprised if you discover an amazing Thai, Japanese or European menu here.

  1. Bali is friendly and inviting

Tourism has offered the Balinese people an opportunity to grow beyond their reliance on rural farming and as a result the friendliness and warmth of the local people is truly authentic. Many are appreciative of their change in circumstances and lifestyle and genuinely want you to feel welcomed in Bali so that you tell everyone just how great the island is and also so that you come back again. There is a laid-back charm to Bali and the people that is enticing and the relaxed atmosphere it creates makes you feel at home.

  1. Bali is…Bali!

The hospitable people; the appetising food; the rich culture; and the stunning beachfronts; I love everything about Bali. It is an island that fills the senses, makes you feel alive and promises a tropical escape by clear blue waters.
