On your next holiday to Phuket, have a culinary adventure! Besides beautiful beaches, exotic wildlife and cultural attractions, the island is jam-packed with amazing restaurants, from simple street food-style Thai eateries to elegant, fine-dining fusion restaurants. Here are seven tastes to try!
7 foodie favourites in Phuket and Mai Khao
1. Chaam Restaurant
No need to venture far for great food! Anantara Vacation Club’s own Chaam restaurant serves up delectable dishes all day, with a wide range of cuisines to satisfy even the pickiest of palates. Excellent for both sit-down meals or on-the-go snacks and sandwiches, and ideal when you’re catering to groups of family members or friends with diverse preferences.
2. Mai Khao Seafood Local Restaurant
For a down-to-earth bit and a little local flavour, try Mai Khao Seafood Local Restaurant. This unpretentious eatery has earned Trip Advisor’s ‘Certificate of Excellence’, and fans praise it for its friendly service, affordable prices and great taste.
3. Royale Nam Tok
For fine dining with a homey feel, venture to the Royale Nam Tok in Kathu, where the restaurant is—quite literally—the owners’ home! Monday through Saturday at 5:00 pm, the Belgian pair opens their doors to offer excellent French-fusion cuisine with dishes like parrot fish in saffron sauce, duck terrine with homemade passionfruit marmalade and beef carpaccio with homemade pesto sauce. They also have a cheese cart, an impressive wine selection and plenty of outstanding desserts.
4. Bill Bentley Pub
Fancy some pub grub? The Bill Bentley Pub, located on the second floor of Mai Khao’s Turtle Village, dishes up good old-fashioned British bar food like burgers, pies, soups, stews and sandwiches, plus a handful of Thai classics. Naturally, it also has a full bar including a selection of bottled and draught beers. This bar is low-key and cosy with a pool table, the island’s only six-metre shuffleboard and large screens that broadcast live sporting events, making it a great place to grab a bite or while away a rainy afternoon.
5. La Gaetana
For delicious Italian food, La Gaetana is a Phuket Town-favourite. This small, family-run restaurant has earned a reputation for its outstanding cuisine—from simple staples like fresh baguettes and homemade butters to rich dishes like imported baked Portobello mushroom in gorgonzola sauce—as well as the hospitality of its owners. The cheerful, rustic ambiance is the perfect backdrop to your meal, and encourages you to linger in true Italian style.
6. Snacks in Mai Khao Beach
Snack your way across Mai Khao Beach at the bamboo-and-thatch seafood shacks near Sarasin Bridge. This stretch of sand is lined with about 10 restaurants, including Jakajan Seafood, Fang Keaw, Pla Pao and Rim Haad Seafood. These ultra-casual spots serve up all kinds of fresh catches, but be sure to check prices before ordering: Some seafood specialties, like barbecue dishes, are sold by weight, so they can get pricey.
7. Dining by Design
For an extra-special meal, create your own dining experience! Anantara’s signature Dining by Design concept allows us to craft an unforgettable culinary journey just for you. Select a menu or collaborate with our chef to create your ideal meal, then choose the setting: a romantic poolside dinner in the privacy of your villa, a candlelit picnic on the beach, a scenic brunch… the choice is yours.
