What is a browser?

Basically, a browser is a software application that allows you to look at different web pages, search for websites online and send emails too. The best way to think about it is that if web pages are books in a store or a library, a browser is the key to the entrance and reception area where a catalogue of what’s available inside is kept. If you are not able to get in the door then you need to check you have the right key! In other words, you need to update your browser.

What are the different browsers?

The five main browsers are: Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Safari (for Mac computers only originally but now available for Windows too). Different computers are set up with different browsers, so firstly find out which one you are using.

Why is it important that my browser is updated?

By keeping your browser updated you are able to navigate the web more easily as the speed to get to pages and move between them is much faster, meaning you can do so much more online. Another big reason you should update your browser is because of potential security risks that older browser versions fail to guard against. By updating your browser you are in effect updating your security features so that you can browse the web more safely. How do I add or change a browser?

As well as updating your browser you can also try out different browsers to see which works best for you. You can have more than one browser on your computer but this is not really necessary and in essence they are all similar. You add a browser by downloading it and this automatically installs the latest, updated version to your system.

Download Internet Explorer and follow the instructions, or Download Chrome. You can also Download Firefox in a few minutes or Download Opera. You can Download Safari for Mac or a Windows PC.

How do I update my existing browser?

If you go online and visit websites then you will be already using a browser, or else you wouldn’t be able to read this article online! If you are having problems reaching the Anantara Vacation Club website then try updating your browser. These updates will often come through automatically but you can check too.

With Internet Explorer, check for updates. If you have Windows XP then updates will be installed automatically. However, if you are running an older version of Windows then follow the instructions and install any available updates are available by following the simple instructions.

With Google Chrome, click the three lines top right of the screen. Go to ‘About Google Chrome’ and you can easily install an update from here.

With Firefox, click the three lines top right of the screen and click on the ‘?’ icon. Go to ‘About Firefox’ and download the most recent version of the browser if necessary.

With Opera, click the browser icon top left of the screen and click ‘Help’. Choose to ‘Check for Updates’.

With Safari for Apple, click the Apple icon top left of the screen. Select ‘Software Update’. For Windows, go to the Start menu and click on ‘All Programs’ followed by ‘Apple Software Update’. Click on ‘File’ and then ‘Check for Updates’.
